COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
BIT, STAR, ROCK DRILL, X-TYPE, FOR DRIFTER DRILLS
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (CID) for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This CID covers star bits for use with drifter drills.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Materials. Unless otherwise specified herein, materials shall be in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications for star bits.
2.2 Design and construction. The star bits shall be in accordance with the requirements of this specification and shall be the manufacturer’s standard commercial product (see figure 1).
2.2.1 Threads. Threads shall be turned 90 degrees to centerline and concentric within 0.005 inch of center blow hole.
2.2.2 Rock bit. All bit bodies shall be of alloy steel having a case hardness of not less than Rh42C. Brazing material used to secure the tungsten carbide inserts to the body of the bits shall be 40 to 50 percent silver-bearing alloy or not less than 40 percent copper alloy. Bonding characteristics of the copper alloy shall be not less than those of the silver-bearing alloy.
